Central Cee, born Oakley Neil Caesar-Su on June 4, 1998, in Ladbroke Grove, West London, grew up surrounded by the rich mix of cultures that define his area. His father, of Guyanese and Chinese descent, exposed him to classic American hip-hop artists, while his English mother introduced him to a more diverse sound palette, including reggae and dancehall that echoed through Notting Hill Carnival every year. After his parents separated when he was around seven, Central Cee moved with his mother and two younger brothers to Shepherd’s Bush, where he spent most of his childhood.

From a young age, he showed a natural interest in writing and rhythm — often composing short rhymes and showing them to his mum. At school, he was quiet but occasionally mischievous, attending the same school as fellow rapper Digga D, who was a few years ahead. Like many young Londoners, he was drawn to street culture, which would later shape his raw, honest lyrics. Central Cee left school at sixteen and briefly worked in a shoe store, quitting after realizing how poorly he was being paid. During his teenage years, he faced financial struggles and turned to hustling to survive, but music quickly became his escape and ultimate focus. Those early experiences — navigating the realities of London’s inner city — became the foundation for his authentic and relatable storytelling in rap.
